Population of L.A.

The population of the Los Angeles metropolitan region has grown spectacularly since the 1880s, when the city was barely more than a minor cow town.

By 1920 the population of Los Angeles County (the most consistent area of comparison) had reached nearly 1 million. Another 1 million arrived during the 1920s alone, a period in which Los Angeles’s basic dispersed urban and residential patterns were established.

(1) CONTUNING GROWTH
(2) CULTURAL DIVERSITY
